I dont think ive ever really gotten “the shot” in Joshua Tree. But this trip with Annie may have very well been the closest.
During every visit, the pieces and potential are there. Soft warm light bouncing off the sand, plenty of backdrops and even verticality for a little extra play.
I think my problem is I always take day trips into the park, never quite getting enough time to really listen to it. to read the light and give it a day to ferment in my mind where I need to be.
This day though, it felt right. Maybe the bandana, or that semi vintage dress but the character came through and Annie played it well. Made it easy to get lost in the moment rather than just see a model and a commonly visited location everyones shot before.
It always kind of blows my mind how quickly Powell is losing water. Almost incentivizng yearly trips because the landscape is almost guaranteed to be different every time.
If theres any real takeaway from this trip its that the bigger the adventure, the more reason to bring the camera, no matter how much of a hassle it could be. In this case, keeping it out of water while kayaking across a giant channel.
Sadly I dont even think this part of the lake exists anymore. Crazy.
